I’m feeling all mopey and nostalgic right now, but that’s actually a good thing. I just got the final notice from GoDaddy that the domain name for my old dance website has officially lapsed and cancelled. I haven’t had that site up since the Year of Chronic Seizures when I had to move to Arkansas and put my world on hold to recover.
Again.
Eventually, I did heal enough to reclaim dance for the second time in my life, and I rebranded, putting up a new website as well as creating a YouTube channel for the new stuff I was creating.1 The re-injury of my neck and spine had left me unable to do a bunch of stuff I’d once been well-known for, and I’d had to stop touring and performing onstage after being booted from Mild to Moderate Traumatic Brain Injury. Then Covid killed off the last of my regional travel and live performances.
I’ll be honest. As sad as it made me, the abrupt cessation was an immense relief to my overtaxed nervous system. So for the past few years, I’ve been making dances specifically for video.
This has been an unexpectedly amazing pursuit! The freedom and creative inspiration it’s given me has been a much needed charge.2 ✨🤩✨
Yet I couldn’t let the old IzzyDancer domain lapse. You know…just in case I ever wanted to breathe new life into it again…
Because…
Because I might—
NO.
I loved my old dance career. From December 21, 2000 until the fall of 2006, I battled tooth and nail to get it back the first time I lost it to a drunk driver. But it was hell on my neurology. Then adding brain traumas 2-4 on top of it? And now post-pandemic flying? It never failed, if I had to travel overseas and even sometimes domestically during flu season, I always got horribly sick.
ALWAYS.
I’ve had multiple trips where I had to change my departure date and stay in a foreign country, holed up in my gracious host’s guest bedroom, sicker than a dog. As such, the thought of going back to all that, but with the current circumstances in my body, brain and the world…
It’s not anything I’m remotely interested in doing. Besides, I’m having way too much fun tinkering with my toys in my fuzzy pants, fuzzy socks, glasses and cleanly scrubbed face. Or, you know…with full stage-face and glorious costumes in the comfort of my home studio.
Or outside, playing in the Elements, of course.
As such, I recently got rid of my old United Miles business credit card I had originally acquired for my jet-setting days. That sucker cost me $99/year for a business I no longer have, and gave rewards in flight miles I no longer need. After getting a personal card with no annual fee, I changed over all my monthly and annual expenses.
However, there were several I did not update. The renewal of my old domain name was one.
So today I officially mourn the closing of IzzyDancer. I equally celebrate all its phoenix embers that were reborn into what I’m creating now.
I will leave you with an olllld dance video project—the first video I ever put up on YouTube back in 2006. This is about a year before a local-yokel stage-starlette had her breakout dreams come true. This song makes me so happy,3 as does any chance I get to dance in a fountain. For many years, this video project was the greeting on my IzzyDancer website.
I guess we’ve come full circle. Like we often do in dance.

…Once upon a time I got overwhelmed. I couldn't maintain all my weekly local dance classes while also touring internationally on TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), so I had to find a way to bridge the gap between monkey-see-monkey-do basic technique vs. teaching my students the deeper arts of Dance. I'd always done this by delivering a wide variety of choreo…
